Save the Net

Network neutrality will ensure that the infrastructure of the internet remains neutral to the choices people make about the services they use on the net; the websites they visit, the blogs they read and author. Neturality will keep low the barriers (costs) to internet entry for content and service providers. "But without Net Neutrality, the Internet will look more like cable TV. Network owners will decide which channels, content and applications are available; consumers will have to choose from their menu...The choice we face now is whether we can choose the content and services we want, or whether the broadband barons will choose for us."

Last week, a battle was lost, but the war can still be won if the "Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2006" is passed. Why am I, an Indian, concerned about this piece of American legislation? In such areas, the Indian government generally takes its cue from Western governments, that's why.
